Event: Sleep Out for Simon, on 5 October 2018
Experience for one night what many people in Ireland face everyday while helping to raise awareness and funds to tackle homelessness.

Story

in 2016 I did my first sleep for Simon. That year 213 people were homeless in the west of Ireland.

This year on the 5th of October 2018 when I join 50 other brave souls to sleep on Shop Street there will be 499 homeless people support.

I see first hand where all the money raised goes to, I see the super work that Galway Simon are doing , however the numbers are raising, due to many factors.

in 2016 with the 10k we raised we fitted a new kitchen and sitting room in one of the women's shelter in Galway - this had such a positive impact on the house in ways we never imagined.

Your money will be used wisely.

This year more than ever we need to call on our government to make more housing available to people -we dont want this number to double again by 2020- please make a call to action

thanks you so much for your support

love ye all

Homelessness in the West of Ireland is growing faster than any other region around the country, while the number of people in emergency accommodation in the West alone increased by 105% from May 2017 to May 2018. Behind these statistics are real people; individuals and families who are struggling to get through life living in emergency accommodation. With a local housing supply that is inadequate to meet the current demand for homes, the need for a focus on prevention has never been greater! 100% of funds raised through this years Sleep Out will support Galway Simon's plan to extend the reach of their Homelessness Prevention & Housing services.Your donation could help to:- Extend County Outreach Services to reach more people at risk of homelessness. - Provide additional homes for young people in their dedicated Youth Service.- Acquire additional housing for their Housing First initiative which will support rough sleepers to transition into a home of their own.

About the charity

Galway Simon was set up in 1979 by volunteers who refused to accept homelessness on the streets of Galway. With the support of the wider community, we have grown, learned and adapted over the years to become a leading provider of homeless and homelessness prevention services in the region.
