Story
Team Luton Lions: Shamim, Kamal, Shahed, Naheem, Mostaque, Jamal, Habib, Aminur and Sujel will be taking on the Berlin Marathon on Sunday 25th September.
Team Luton Lions will be running in memory of Aktar Miah who passed away tragically earlier this year. Aktar was a Lion and ran two marathons with Luton Lions to raise funds to help children with cancer in the UK. He had a kind and caring heart and touched the lives of many in our community.
We are raising funds to set up an eye screening and cataract surgery service in Golmukhafon, his village in Bangladesh. The screening will identify 100 individuals living in poverty in and around his village that are in need of a cataract operation. Without the procedure these individuals would lose their sight and subsequently impact on their ability to look after their families. The initiative will provide: screening, pre-operative assessment, surgery and post operative care. Patients diagnosed with cataracts will be transported from Aktar's village to a surgical centre in Syhlet, Bangladesh for the vital operation.
We hope this gift of sight to others will be a immence reward for Aktar Miah in the hereafter. Ameen.
