Story
In 2017 Arrive Alive launched ‘The Silver Second Appeal’. Arrive Alive funds lifesaving vehicles for CFR’s who are medically trained volunteers who attend 999 calls.
The motivation behind the appeal was Ellie, my cousin and my inspirational aunt Debbie.
Ellie contracted a life threatening case of measles, upon hospitalisation she developed various complications. During the illness, her Mother contacted NHS 111 for advice, and was quoted a wait of two to four hours for an ambulance despite being in a desperate situation. This wait is down to the lacking resources the NHS faces when it comes to emergency medical care. Ellie also suffers from lifelong conditions, lupus and life threatening allergic reactions – anaphylaxis.
Ellie and Debbie both know from first hand experience that those vital seconds can produce a different outcome when faced with a critical life threatening medical emergency.
An Arrive Alive vehicle can arrive within those vital seconds/minutes prior to a road or air ambulance to initiate lifesaving medical treatment. Following the launch of 'The Silver Second Appeal', Arrive Alive has been able to launch and fund three lifesaving vehicles and equipment within Birmingham, Solihull and the Black Country.
Additional lifesaving vehicles are urgently needed to ensure more lives can be saved.
