Story
So following on from completing my 4 ultra marathons in 4 days from Southport to Hornsea raising awareness and support of mental health one year on from my own suicide attempt.
Recently having the honour of being invited to be a speaker on the inspiration stage at the National Running Show Birmingham 2020 to talk mental health.
Having spoken to soo many people openly about my story and how running and general 'Green Time' played a pivotal part of my recovery, a number of queries, discussion points and ideas were raised.
I met so many inspirational runners from all backgrounds whom have completed a range of phenomenal challenges and physical fetes of endurance. Things ranging from running the length of the of country barefoot, running marathons in the 5 hottest & 5 coldest countries, 240 mile plus runs etc
A common question to such challenges is 'why?' ………. My response I think echoed by many is 'to prove it can be done!'.
Such challenges can often viewed as pointless so I decided to do just that and maybe a bit of a contradiction. I am going to carry out an old British idiom ( pointless task), but give it a big point(s). To prove it can be done and to raise awareness, support of mental health and a big chunk of funding for the leading mental charity MIND.
The challenge aptly named 'Coals to Newcastle' will be me running from my home on the edge of the peak district to my birthplace of Newcastle (approx. 124 miles) towing a 25kg sack of coal.
This again will be another physical and mental challenge so please share and support me along my journey!
