“Walking from Home to Rome”
I have had this adventure in the back of my mind for several years, but given the time it will take, I knew I‘d not do it while Mum was still with me. I did often tell her about it but I’ll never know how much she understood.
I will be leaving in early May, heading to the border diagonally towards Peebles and Selkirk and then down the East of England to Canterbury. (I’m Ged, I looked to find the flattest route🧐).
From Canterbury, I can roughly follow the Via Francigena to Rome. There’s a technical hitch with that route though….it goes over some Alp sized hills! Nope, I’ll be turning right, heading to the coast and avoiding those climbs!
**UPDATE** Apparently my “skip the Alps” route is just as hilly and of course much longer. So, on the advice of many friends and kindnappers, I am going to get my head down and climb those Alps afterall! However, if you know anyone who could help with my heavy bags from day to day as I climb, please do shout!🤣
I’ll be pulling and pushing my Gedmobile buggy.

Massive thanks to the incredible artist Tom Napper (@tomnapper) for creating this fab drawing for me!
