Story
I’ll be running my first Marathon in Amsterdam on October 16th in aid of The Goed Life, alongside Jamie Spanswick, Cam Koolhoven & Ned Goedhuis.
Ned’s brother, Sam, who has Down Syndrome, started working in a café in Northampton a few years ago. His experience was life changing. His communication & life skills progressed beyond recognition and he developed a sense of pride and belonging that he couldn't find in any day centre.
As such, Ned & his family set up The Goed Life to enhance the lives of more people with learning disabilities, by preparing them for and helping them find meaningful employment, and supporting them and their families in a multitude of other ways.
Currently there are 1.5 million people in the UK with learning disabilities and 94% are unemployed, we don't think it needs to be this way! There are opportunities for both employer and employee in hiring people with learning disabilities.
Any support goes straight to feet on the ground, the primary cost being for the job coaches and carers. For example, £18 pays for one hour of coaching
Thank you for all of your support – it means the world!
