Trek26 South Devon Coast - 26 miles · 9 September 2023 ·
Mum is the most caring and beautiful woman who always gave us everything she could. She has always been my best friend and there is nothing I miss more than our long talks about life over a cup of tea.
Over the past 6 years mum has lost her ability to communicate fully, perform simple tasks and has forgotten who many people are. Memories have faded and she is faced daily with confusion and frustration. She still gives us all the biggest smile which is the part of mum we haven't lost and feel grateful for everyday.
She has her trusty companion Ally the jack russell who she dotes on, and we take daily walks to get out in the fresh air which is her favourite thing to do. The best bit is when she throws her arms open and runs into the wind because she loves the feeling of freedom and the fresh air! She has always loved the ocean too, which is why I thought this coastal trek to raise money was perfect! I wish I could take her for the 26miles, but she does struggle with more than a few km now.
As a family we support her as much as we can and we are lucky to still get never ending hugs! ( Her hugs are the best hugs ) ...
It is the most heartbreaking thing we have ever been through and we cannot begin to imagine how it has felt for her as well as our dad. We are hopeful one day there will be more ways to prevent or cure this disease for those in the future. Thank you for your support, this means so much to all of us! xxx
