Story

Hello,

My name is Georgina Elliott and I am raising money for The Encephalitis Society.

Encephalitis is inflammation of the brain which is usually caused by infection or an inappropriate auto-immune response. The inflammation can damage nerve cells resulting in 'acquired brain injury'. Anyone can become ill with encephalitis at any age.

In the year 1999, my mum was diagnosed with encephalitis which was very tough on my family as my brothers and myself were only young. Luckily we had close relatives to care for us while my dad was looking after my mum in hospital.

Thankfully my mum survived but it took her a long time to gain her confidence with directions and remembering certain people. She also lost her sense of smell and taste which took her a long time to come to terms with but now she has got used to it and is grateful that she hadn't lost anything else that would be life changing.

Thanks to The Encephalitis Society, they helped my mum to build confidence and to know that she is not alone. As a thank you in return, I would like to raise as much money as I can for The Encephalitis Society by doing the British 10k run on July 14th.

Thank you so much for you sponsors, it means a lot!
