Story
2020 is a special year in the Davenport family household as it will be 10 years since my beautiful sister Jennifer died (or Jenny Wren as we all knew her). So I think I should do something to mark this event, something worthwhile in the memory of a beloved family member. Sooooo a triathlon it is (even it might wreck me in the process), but don’t worry I’m bringing a friend along for the ride i.e. my cousin Nat. I hope you can all get behind us and support us as we push ourselves for what is
honestly a great cause.
If you wish to continue reading there is a little back-story on my
sister below <3
Jenny was born with a rare genetic condition called Tuberous Sclerosis, a condition that meant she had tumours all across her body and internal organs especially the brain. She had no speech, little understanding, severe learning difficulties and epilepsy. But considering all this and the fact doctors had said, she always had a risk of dying at a young age, she made it all the way the 21 (good going if you ask me). She had a fun, music filled life and not only changed our family but made us into a strong and caring unit we are today.
While my family was growing up we looked to the TSA for help and advice on a range of issues. They offered support when negotiating the Health Service and contact with other families in a similar situation. They also organised weekend breaks, which we could all enjoy and have fun with other similar families. As one of the smaller, less well-known charities they continue to finance vital research and support families during what can be a most distressing time in their lives.
I can only thank them for everything they did for us and hope to go some way to repaying them.
xx
