Story
After 3 postponements, I will hopefully be running the London Royal Parks Half Marathon on 10 October to raise money for Diabetes UK. This is a cause that’s really close to my heart, as my sister was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at a young age.
Diabetes is a difficult condition to live with at the best of times, but the COVID-19 pandemic has disproportionately affected people with diabetes; around a third of people who sadly died of COVID also had diabetes, which is a horrifying statistic. Whilst my sister and we as a family have learnt how to manage her diabetes and are able to support her, there have still been several touch-and-go moments. I can only imagine how much more difficult diabetes is to manage for those in a precarious situation, for example without secure housing or healthcare access. In these cases, the support offered by Diabetes UK is nothing short of life-saving.
Diabetes UK are the leading UK charity providing support to people with diabetes and their families, as well as funding essential research to make diabetes easier to manage, better understand and reduce the impact of COVID-19 and diabetes, and eventually find a long-term cure. With the impact of the pandemic being felt across the charity sector, right now they need all the help they can get to continue their work; any amount that you can give, no matter how small, would be hugely appreciated!
You can sponsor me a flat amount, you can sponsor 50p/£1/£2 per mile, you can really up the pressure and sponsor me for every minute I beat my PB (or every minute I go over it)! However you fancy donating, please do give what you can and help me reach my £350 target for Diabetes UK.
