Hi, in a months time (30th July) I am taking part in a Skydive!!! I have decided to try and raise some money for the Sunderland Eye Infirmary.
My son Oliver has Optic Nerve Hypoplasia and it's this hospital that supported him as he was growing up. Optic nerve hypoplasia means that the nerve hasn't developed properly. Normally the optic nerve contains over a million separate fibres, all of which work together to transmit what the eye sees to the brain to be interpreted. In optic nerve hypoplasia the fibres have not developed properly. This can effect either one or both eyes and the effect on a child's vision can vary greatly, although most children have a serious visual impairment. Oliver has no vision at all in his left eye and as it stands today there is no cure but there is support. Thankfully he has full vision in his right eye but there are many that don't. A greatly improved, better equipped eye hospital will massively impact alot of people and help so much with their eye problems. No amount of money will get his eyesight back, but if i can give a little to support other vision problems i will. Every little helps, all donations go straight to the charity. Thankyou in advance xx
The Sunderland Eye Infirmary has been providing excellent eye care for the people of the North East for well over a century, its now time for an upgrade! The South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust is going to build a new Eye Hospital in the heart of Sunderland, looking to provide the best possible eye care to the people of the region. The stsCharity is looking to buy state of the art equipment to help place the new Eye Hospital at the cutting edge of eye care, but to do this we need your help! A great many people have had their lives profoundly affected by the work of the Eye Infirmary, sight is something most of us take for granted and it is devastating when we lose it. With your help we expand the range of services the eye hospital can treat, helping to improve the lives of many more people in the North East and beyond.
