Story
Those of you who know me will know that in January 2022 my Aunt was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease. Understandably this diagnosis has been heartbreaking for her, her friends and her family.
Since her diagnosis she has now lost the ability to move entirely, except perhaps for one finger and to blink. She can’t scratch her nose, move hair back from her face, feed herself or hug her loved ones back. She has also lost most of her ability to speak and it breaks my heart to know that I’ll never again hear her loud “HIYA” as she walks through the door. She now requires 24 hour care and I am so grateful to all her carers. Despite all of this however and despite the awful nature of this disease, one thing MND will never take away from me and her friends and family is the fact she is still herself! She is now and always will be my fairy godmother, the best of friends and the most beautiful human being inside and out (albeit with a huge stubborn streak!)
It is because of her diagnosis that the devastating nature of MND came to light. It is because of this diagnosis that I started my fundraising as I am determined to raise money so we can provide people with MND with the care they need but also life changing medical research.
So on that note, I’m running a 10K for MND Scotland. Yes, you read that right. Someone who skived PE at school literally every week is now going to run for a whole hour and a half. I need all the help I can get. I know times are hard for people, I dread to look at my energy bill this weekend but any donations at all are so welcome and so greatly appreciated. The more research that goes into MND the better equipped we will be to help people like my Aunt and hopefully one day eradicate it!
Thanks for getting to the end!
