Story
October 2022, one of my closest friends, Kasia, lost her battle to suicide. Kasia was a kind, intelligent, caring and beautiful spirit, but at only 24 years old she decided to end her own life. Despite being loved and supported throughout her illness, nothing was able to conquer the battle with depression that she faced for many years.
Seeing the devastation this condition has caused to this beautiful, loving family has been heart-breaking. Even worse is that this happens time and time again, to so many people all over the world.
There is nothing we can do to change what happened to Kasia, but there is something we can do to help other individuals, friends and families affected by mental illness. With mental health problems affecting up to 1 in 4 people at some point in their lifetimes, we all know somebody living with these conditions. Many are likely to be struggling in silence. By supporting Mind, we can help ensure that more people have access to the support they need, we can help raise awareness, reduce stigma, and improve funding for research into this tragically misunderstood group of illnesses.
I’m going to be running several half marathons throughout 2023 starting with-
Stornoway Half Marathon 27th May
Skye Half Marathon 10th June
Isle of Harris Half Marathon 08th July
Great Scottish Run Half Marathon 01st October
This will be a huge challenge for me as I haven’t ran in a number of years but I’m determined to put the time and effort into training for these runs.
I would be so grateful for any sponsorship you could donate towards this cause. Your support would be appreciated by so many.
This is something very dear to my heart. I hope I can make you proud Kasia. I’m running this for you! ❤️
