Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they'll send your money directly to the charity. So it's the most efficient way to donate - saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

I worked with Pennine Domestic Violence Group and it is a charity i feel deeply moved by. The Charity supports victims of domestic violence and abuse, sexual violence, 'honour' based abuse, forced marriage and female genital mutilation. Any money raised will go towards purchasing computers for the women to use to help them rebuild their lives.

When a woman arrives at refuge having fled domestic abuse they usually arrive with nothing. Most women have experienced a range of abuse including financial and economic abuse.

It’s a lengthy and complicated process towards financial independence.

In real terms; every application i.e.: Housing Benefit, Universal Credit, job searching, Universal Credit ‘journal’ maintenance, Child benefit, Child Tax Credit and housing applications are done on a computer.

In the spirit of developing a client’s autonomy and independence, PDVG's clients will need to use IT skills for when they move on. When many clients arrive, they have many barriers to engage with external agencies due to language, understanding systems, lack of IT skills and lack of suitable IT equipment.

To be able to secure and stabilise a clients funds; access to Laptops and an IT suite will help to remove these barriers, enable staff to teach the SUs to understand the complex workings of benefit systems and leave a legacy of knowledge so that they can leave with the ability to continue to maintain their finances and secure a viable future.

PDVG use a client led approach, and endeavour to encourage their clients to be resilient and have independence.

They can be taught to use computers, create an email, apply for jobs, apply for all benefits, maintain their universal credit account, become fully work ready and have successful, safe independent lives.

Thank you for taking time to read my story - Only 5% is retained by the 'Just Giving' page. If you decide to donate please select gift aid, at no extra cost to yourself, 25% will be added to your donation and go to the Pennine Domestic Violence Group.

Thank you for your support!
