Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
As many of you reading this will know, my boyfriend James was diagnosed with Muscular Dystrophy several years ago. I love him very much and I'm running the 2019 London Marathon in order to raise awareness of the condition and support further research.
At just over 5 foot tall and definitely not physically suited to long distance running, this is really going to be a challenge for me! But I'd love your support and any donation you can give in order to keep me motivated to train throughout the cold, dark winter and give me the strength to get through 26.219 miles in April.
Muscle-wasting conditions are very rare, affecting just over one in every 1,000 people. As a result, some health professionals may never come across anyone with a muscle-wasting condition and may not know much about them. I didn't either until I met James and we rely on professionals who specialise in MD to help and support us.
Muscular Dystrophy UK is a charity supporting the 70,000 people and their families living with muscle-wasting conditions in the UK. They provide vital information, advice, resources and support for people with these conditions, their families and the professionals who work with them.
There are currently no treatments for most of the muscle-wasting conditions. Research generates the knowledge that is essential for understanding the cause of these conditions. This knowledge can then be used in finding effective treatments.
Research requires money and so I am putting myself through the ordeal of a full marathon in order to raise some cash for this great cause! Please give what you can :)
