Story
The Cause
9 years ago, my cousin married her wonderful husband Alex. Alex was a sports scholar at school and all around the brightest spirit in the room. They now have two young children. He has been diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease - a devastating blow to his new family. As time goes on, the disease takes away the ability to walk, to use your hands and even the ability to speak. This is made all the more heartbreaking as the mind functions normally, without any control over the body's deterioration. Alex continues to defy the odds although Motor Neurone Disease has ruthless physical and emotional impacts on those who have it and those around them.
The Charity
Motor Neurone Disease Association do incredible and essential work to support people like Alex and their families by providing funds for:
- Immediate equipment such as: Communication aids including voice banking and wheelchairs
- Grants dedicated to supporting families with the additional costs and carers that MND demands
- Critical research into therapeutic targets, developing treatments and improving quality of life for those suffering from MND.
The Association believe that one day there could a world free from MND.
The Challenge
On September 5th I will be competing in a duathlon in London's Richmond Park. This will consist of a 10km run, a 44km cycle and a 5km run. I will be aiming to complete this in 02 hours and 30 minutes as a contribution to the Mission 5000 Project run by the Motor Neurone Disease Association.
While this challenge will be painful it is in a great cause so please make a difference and donate whatever you can to support this fantastic charity.
Thank you so much for your support :)
