Story
For all the good in the world, and despite my optimism, there are some things I can't reconcile.
Fortunately, my Grandad has lived a wonderful and successful life, which I aspire to. However, a few years ago, he was diagnosed with the evil dementia.
My Grandad is the direct victim, but the pain and suffering on the family is widespread, especially for my Grandma, who is now a full time carer. For my Mum too, and so on.
It’s tough to see someone you love slowly fade away.
Dementia is a syndrome that affects the brains ability to function properly. It is not a specific disease but rather a group of symptoms that can be caused by various diseases and injuries that affect the brain. The horrors of dementia are many, but perhaps the worst is that it takes away the very essence of a person. It robs them of their memories, their sense of self, and their ability to live a normal life.
There is no cure.
The reason I am raising money for Age UK Cheshire is because they are a local social enterprise and charity that is dedicated to supporting people in later life in the local area. Amongst their many services they provide invaluable support for people with Dementia. My Grandad attends the 'Bright Memories Club'. Thank you to my uncle for providing all these details.
On the 18th November I’m getting in the ring for Charity. Help me in supporting Age UK Cheshire, and thus supporting my Grandad and the millions of other victims. I'm challenging myself to raise 12x the minimum defined by the event organisers (£50), and for this I’ll need your help.
Cheers George x
