Story

GEORGE PAUL from Bradburys’ Cheese is doing nothing for 24 hours on a Friday 19th July....

In recent months many friends and aquaintances have done daring, crazy, brave and plain dumb things to raise money for great charities, from mountain climbing, fell walking, cycling, 3 peak climbing and so much more.

I struggled to think of some atheltic prowess I might possess to match this and after nearly 2 minutes of soul searching I came up with nothing!

It was a lightbulb moment!!  Thats what I will do - nothing!

Simple some may think, but for a man that has to be surgically separated from a mobile phone, lap top, blackberry and I-pad thats not as easy as you may think...

So my challenge is every bit as arduous as anyone elses - in some cases more so

I seek your help to support me for the ABF, Army charity, to support the serving and retired men and women of our army.

I could write reams of worthy notes on our armed forces, for having met both serving and retired members I am humbled by their natural courage, discipline and quiet calm over the real life challenges they have faced and are facing today. For me sometimes the contrast is between their notion of integrity and teamwork, care for comrades, pride in their unit and total committment to each other, whether at cost of life or limb, and how that frequently contrasts with the society they protect

No matter, they accept their lot, and we have pride in them and seen so often in recent times the toll it takes on life, health and mind. There is nothing we do could ever pay that debt - but I wish to help all I can

So whilst my life is not knowingly in danger my sanity maybe as I do nothing....

On Friday 19th July, I pledge...

* for a full 24 hours I will do nothing...

* I will not answer or make phone calls, and be parted from all my equipment for communication----argh!

* I will not read or open e mails or letters

* I will not make a single decision for others

* I will not visit or meet with anyone in business

* I will remain away from the Buxton office and my own home office

* I will not cook or prepare any food (eating is permitted, and begging, whining or fainting is allowed to achieve someone else doing it)

* I will not wash up - clean up - iron - hoover - do gardening - wash cars - make beds or any housework of any kind (this should be the easy bit)

* I will not pay any bills, enter raffles, or lotteries

* and finally I guarantee not to be nice to cold callers, hawkers, or Jehovahs witnesses who may happen to call that day

But in order for me to do nothing - you have to do something - otherwise I may do something and the pledge is lost

And because I personally hold in the highest esteem the serving men and women of our army (and other armed forces) I will pledge the first £250. If I break my pledge (and on my honour) I will raise that to £1000 on any breach

But this army needs you - so little or large your help is welcomed and if you have bothered to read to the bottom here - its got to be worth a few quid eh?

Thankyou,

Your fellow countrymen, proud Brit and all round annoyance to friend and foe alike

George Paul
