Story
I have spent the last four years qualifying and, more recently, training for a very big run! This will be my toughest yet by a long way, being the UTMB CCC which is over 100km around Mont Blanc in the Alps, crossing into three countries before ending in Chamonix. It includes over 6,500m of ascent (and the same of descent!), all of which has to be completed within 27hrs! Words will not do justice to how gruelling it will be...
So having broadly finished my training, it's time to focus on the race itself, starting on 1st September, finishing on 2nd, and, most importantly, the cause for which I'm raising money, Brain Research Trust.
As some will know, I have always been passionate about raising money for epilepsy research, given one of my brothers has spent the last 25 years struggling with the daily implications of this condition. Still today
doctors remain confounded, with him having frequent seizures and this having a significant impact on his quality of life. The brain remains one of the last frontiers of medical research, with it ever more likely that a number of us will have a serious neurological condition as life expectancies increase. Given I have seen the challenges of solving neurological disorders first hand, I really believe in raising money to help drive further research across this field.
I will therefore be supporting The Brain Research Trust. It funds the world's leading research into brain disorders, led by the top specialists in the UK, with benefits across a multitude of conditions including; Epilepsy, Parkinson's, Alzheimer's, Brain tumours, Multiple Sclerosis and Huntington's.
While not exactly the same race, the same course though, the following gives a sense of what it will be like: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=St49BdhuA8c
Thank you for any support whatsoever.
Very much appreciated.
