Story
Hello there, I’m George and welcome to my fundraising page. From the 6th September I will be cycling from Sandhurst, in Kent, to Ile De Ré on the west coast of France over 4-5 days to raise money for Brain Cancer Research for my father, Tom. Joining me on this cycle will be William Bonnar & Oliver Morss-Davies, with Benjie Meek & George Skinner driving the support car alongside. The total distance is roughly 475 miles from door to door travelling through Kent, Sussex, Normandy, Pays De La Loire and Northern Aquitaine. Once we have arrived in Ile De Ré we will then all be cycling the circumference of the island in order to further raise money for Brain Cancer Research.
The reason for undertaking this cycle is because in March 2022 my father was diagnosed with a primary central nervous system lymphoma, specifically a non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL). This has effectively resulted in a brain tumour in the frontal lobe on his left side.
We received this news not long after my Dad married my incredible step-mum, Lisa, at the end of February. Around the same time he was diagnosed, my dear aunt, and his sister, Antonia, sadly passed away from stage 4 Lung Cancer.
For those of you that have had the opportunity to meet Tom before would know how loving, charismatic, and funny he can be. Alongside his affectionate devotion to his family, he has always been an incredible character throughout my life.
The reason for choosing Ile De Ré as the destination is because we used to go on holiday here, with my Dad and my siblings, almost every year. As such, the island holds numerous fond memories, so I couldn’t think of anywhere better to finish in order to raise money for him.
Any and all donations are hugely appreciated and mean a huge amount to me, and my family. Please feel free to share this story and page wherever you can. Thank you.
