Students at Bristol take on the Machu Picchu Challenge for Unseen!

Story

*** From May 23rd to June 23rd I ran 100km to raise awareness for Unseen! That's 1 metre for each person in modern slavery in the UK (estimated). Read on to find out more about Unseen and scroll down to view my runs ***

This year I've decided to take on the Bristol Rag Machu Picchu Challenge in aid of Unseen - a charity that envisions a world where exploiters are stopped, vulnerable people have livelihoods, and survivors pursue lives of freedom and impact.

Unseen estimate that there are over 100,000 people in modern slavery and human trafficking across the UK, and 40.3 million across the globe. This places these crises in every town, city and rural area of the nation right now.

Unseen helps survivors of modern slavery and human trafficking to escape their situation and rebuild their lives. But a major barrier to helping people is a lack of funding. This is why I'm taking on this challenge - a 6 day trek across Peruvian mountains ending at Machu Picchu, reaching heights of over 4,600m - to raise money and awareness for Unseen.

Over the last 2 years of pandemic and lockdowns, victims of modern slavery have had even less opportunity seek help and escape their situation - which makes it all the more important to support this incredible cause now.

Any little will help, and I'm incredibly grateful to any donation <3
