Story
If the Great Wall of China is one of the Seven Wonders of the World, the eighth must surely be that I ever agreed to run a marathon along it. It's 26.2 miles in soaring temperatures with 5,164 "man-size" steps thrown in. Apparently it's not unusual for participants to crawl on all fours for certain uphill sections - anyway........ I am going to need a lot of motivation to get over the line, and one such way would be to try and honour any donations to the following charity you might care to make by getting my arse in gear and completing this thing.
I am running it on 17th May - and I have decided to support the Hammersmith and Fulham Foodbank because it does unglamorous but vital work in the part of west London where I lived before I moved to Singapore, and because my family support it as volunteers.
HFFB is an independent charity providing grocery parcels to people in crisis. About a third of the recipients are children. Last year HFFB gave enough food to prepare up to 10 meals for 3,820 people, equivalent to 38,200 meals. By 2016 this need is projected to rise to 10,000 people.
HFFB relies on unpaid volunteers. Money is badly needed to pay for food, its storage and transportation.
If you would like to know more about HFFB please go to the link at the top of this page on the right.
Any donations will be appreciated hugely.
