Story
Mum showed signs of Alzheimers long before being diagnosed 2 years ago and she’s now living in a local Care Home that specializes in dementia.
She is relatively happy now but during the early stages she was very scared and concerned about how she wasn't able to complete simple tasks or remember important information. It wasn't until we received a dementia diagnosis that used the Alzheimers Society website to research how the disease might progress and prepare to make adjustments to her living situation. When she stopped driving her car the loss of independence accelerated the affects of the disease, as did the Covid lockdowns.
There are various ways the brain is affected by all forms of dementia and being aware of how each stage could impact the person and their loved ones is really important.
The Alzheimer’s Society is a great source of information and support for anyone affected. They are looking for a cure and have made great progress recently but in the meantime they offer essential support to those dealing with dementia.
I'm raising money by walking over some hills, which might not sound like hard work to some people but I chose this option as it will mean walking with others who have had experience of dementia. I'll be able to chat with others who have been dealing with the affects of this disease and discuss how we have dealt with the various complications that Alzheimer’s causes to the person but also to the lives of their loved ones.
The trek is on the 16th of July and I plan to begin training for it soon. Next week…..maybe….
If anyone would like to talk about dementia then please get in touch. I have researched the disease for a number of years now and have some knowledge and experience to pass on.
Hopefully I can raise some money for this great cause as the Alzheimers Society would really appreciate it.
I'm also hoping to soon be able to spell Alzheimers without having to ask Alexa......isn’t it ironic that I keep forgetting!?!
