Story
My father died when I was six years old and it was not until my early adulthood that I began to come to terms with the loss. As such I have a very clear idea of how traumatic events in an individual's formative years can impact them for the rest of their life.
I do not believe that I received the support that I now know I needed at the time. I feel extremely passionately about this walk because the main purpose is to raise money for Young Minds. This charity's cause resonates strongly with me knowing what I know now. No child should lack access to the support and professional help thay they are entitled to!
I anticipate that I will spend £5,000 of my savings over the course of the next year to support my walk therefore I aim to raise double this amount (£10,000) for the Young Minds charity.
Having grown up watching Long Way Round and Mondo Enduro I have always dreamt of one big adventure. As a teen I was certain that this would be riding around the world on a motorcycle however I soon realised that I would never be able to afford such an undertaking. All thoughts were put on the back burner as I instead pursued a career as a Geography teacher.
Fast forward two decades, the urge still persists. Six years ago I moved to Spain where I found a new passion for the outdoors. Running, mountain walks and wild camping have become my go to pursuits and this led me to wonder, could I possibly walk around the whole of Spain?
I have read extensively about the walks of others: Laurie Lee, Nicholas Crane to name but a few and although success is of course not guaranteed, I am certain - as are those who know me - that I will complete this challenge. More importantly I hope that I will be able to raise funds for a charity whose mission resonates strongly with me.
