Story
Starting on Sunday 4 August, I'll be setting off from Lands End hoping to cycle the length of Britain arriving at John O' Groats on Saturday 17th August.
That's over a 1000 miles and goodness knows how many hills and pies along the way!
In 2006 I swam the Channel and raised over £5000 for Marie Curie Hospice - this latest venture is my second of three personal challenges to eventually cycle and swum from the South of France to the North of Scotland - becoming an end to ender and maybe the only one who has ever done that.
Not only is this a personal challenge for me, it's an opportunity to help raise funds for the Co op partner charity Barnardo's who support vulnerable children and families.
When life gets tough or it feels like there's nowhere to turn, Barnardo's make sure children and young people feel safer, happier, healthier and more hopeful, by directly supporting them and their families with specialist services, raising awareness and campaigning to change things for the better.
If you can make a donation, no matter how small, it will support the vital work of Barnardo's, which in turn, will spur me on to do my bit and complete the challenge
Thank you all so much
Kind regards
Geoff
Well here's an update
Thankfully I was successful in this challenge arriving at John O Groats on Saturday 17 September having cycled 1027 miles and climbed over 69000 feet - losing over 2 stone since the project started.
I can't tell you how great it felt when I got there and how fantastic the overall experience was.
To think back that 14 strangers in the team set off from Lands End on the 3rd of August and by the time we arrived at JOG we were a tight group and everyone benefitted from everyone else's support
The camaraderie was brilliant and I know feel that I have 14 new great friends and I look forward to the next challenge at some time in the future
I am well on my way to achieving the £1000 goal now and for that I would like to thank each and everyone of you for your contributions. It really helped that in the "dark hours" of cycling miles and miles and miles and up and up and up 😊and so on it will be for a great cause
Thank you all once again - your support has been amazing
Kind regards
Geoff
