Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Some of my earliest memories have been about the sadness and distress that cancer brings to family and friends. The loss of my grandma, aunt and mother have all been dreadfully painful events in my family's life. Over the last 35 years cancer has also taken the lives of several good friends and when in late 2011 it claimed the life of my best friend Mike Ditte, the feeling of loss was unbearable. Mike had been best man at my wedding and I am godfather to his children Neil and Lynsey. Mike demonstrated all the values that I respect and admire. He was loyal, hardworking, with a deep affection for his family and friends. He was the big brother I never had and I loved him dearly.
For my own dear mother Florence (Fay) Todd and again in the last few days of Mike's illness, Dorothy House were totally and absolutely brilliant. Their care and expertise helped us all through an awful time. Without their support I can't imagine how much harder it would have been.
In the 15 months that have passed since we lost Mike, Neil's talents with musical theatre and Lynsey's with art, together with their mum Christine's ever-present support, have raised a 5 figure sum for Dorothy House. Now it's my turn.
For a man in his sixties who until recently has never run continuously for more than 6 miles, a half marathon is a major challenge. But it's a challenge I am determined to meet. I have already had generous support in my efforts to raise as much money as possible for Dorothy House and if you could also consider giving generously through this website, our combined efforts will make a significant difference to a wonderful cause.
