Story
On 1st May 2021, my brother Philip passed away age just 33 with a sudden rapid diagnosis of lung cancer. Having completed a few treks at high altitude in the past, I regretted not fundraising.
I have decided to fundraise for Macmillan as they offered support and comfort in Philips final few months. From organising medical aids for comfort for his home, physio and emotional support for his wife and children.
I am heading to Tanzania on 30th September to summit Kilimanjaro, which stands at 5895m / 19,340ft. Kilimanjaro is Africas highest mountain and the worlds highest single freestanding mountain. At the highest altitude, I will have just 49% oxygen levels compared to sea level. To put this into perspective, it is like breathing with a piece of sellotape over your mouth with a tiny pin prick hole. Reality will really hit home here, as in Philips final months he was deteriorating rapidly with much less oxygen levels.
Any amount would be greatly appreciated just to give a little something back for the amazing work Macmillan do. There’s around 3 million people living with cancer in the UK today, and over 360,000 more are diagnosed every year.
Thank you everyone, I hope to summit at sunrise on 7th October 2022.
Rest in peace Phil. You always will be an amazing brother, husband, son, dad, uncle and friend to so many. Until we meet again x
