I have set myself this personal challenge in order to raise awareness of Frontotemporal dementia and funds for further research into this and other types of dementia.
I also want to raise awareness of the challenges and heartache dementia causes not only for the person with the diagnosis but also those close family and friends supporting and caring for the individual.
My Dad pictured above was diagnosed in 2015 with this type of dementia although we knew something wasn't quite right for some time leading up to this diagnosis. My mum coped amazingly well looking after him at home until spring last year when his behaviour as a result of the dementia became so difficult that as a family we had to make the most difficult decision of our lives. Cut a long story short and to save the tears whilst writing this, Dad no longer lives at home. He is cared for in a nursing home.
Dementia sucks big time!
