First Weekend September 2011 - National 3 Peaks Challenge
25th September 2011 - Run to the Beat Half Marathon!!!
I know i've opened this page a bit early but i've got a big target, and would love to raise more than £2,000 if i can!
Most of you will already know my ambitous plans for September and why i'm doing it but I will start from scratch.
Over the last 7 years, i've lost a lot of people very close and dear to me to cancer. My best friend Harriet at just 16, my uncle who suffered with lung cancer for several years, my nan had bowel cancer, and my lovely friend Lyndsays dad died pretty suddenly of a brain tumour last October. My mum and dad are total rocks to me, and this just tipped me over the edge.
I've always wanted to raise money to support cancer research, and please don't think i'm a gym addict in any way! It's a chore for me to run a couple of miles, and struggled through a 10k last year. However, I am extremely ambitious!! So i've decided to make September a big month, and do a couple of challenges to raise as much money as possible.
I've chosen Cancer Research as, although it does already get significant funding, it's the one charity that is working to PREVENT CANCER. I don't know about you, but i pray that my kids, and their kids, won't have to deal with cancer as much as we do today and Cancer Research UK are doing amazing things to help make this happen.
The first weekend in September me, and my 63 year old mum will be doing the National Three Peaks Challenge together. (I did originally have about 12 people involved but everyone seems to have lost interest! - Well done Mum for sticking on in there!) The Three Peaks are Snowdon, Scaffel Pike, and Ben Nevis - the three highest mountains in the UK.
AND...this is really huge for me, on the 25th Sept i'll be doing a half marathon in London, sponsored by Nike it's called Run to the Beat. Just two weeks after The Three Peaks this is going to be ridiculously hard for me, especially as I haven't been to the gym for about 3 months!
Please spread the word to anyone that knows me, parents, friends, colleagues etc...£2,000 is really the minimum I want to raise.
Mum also has a just giving page if you would like to sponsor her please go to www.justgiving.com/brendadeacon or just do it through mine and put a note with it! :)
Thank you soo much for reading my rather long story. If you can spare some money i'd really appreciate it, every penny really does count!
