Story
Thanks for visiting my page.
I’m raising money for the charity “Crohn’s and Colitis UK” and hope to raise awareness of Crohn’s Disease and Ulcerative Colitis.
I’m taking part in the Wolf Run on Saturday 7 September, in a pack with 22 other runners, 3 of whom have either Crohn’s or Colitis. The Wolf Run is Wild Running - a unique combination of three kinds of off-road running: mud runs, trail runs and obstacle runs. The only Wild Run in the UK, it’s a hardcore 10k run across raw natural terrain, including open ground, woodland, lakes & thick mud.
Running in a pack I’ll be tackling a series of tough obstacles - both man-made and natural - designed to test my mental & physical strength, skills and stamina. I’ll run, climb, jump, wade, crawl and swim through a course designed to challenge me on every level.
Crohn’s and Colitis are Inflammatory Bowel Diseases (IBD- not to be confused with Irritable Bowel Syndrome or IBS) which last a lifetime and for which there is no known cure. They can strike at any age but most commonly begin in young people. Around 240,000 people in the UK have these conditions and more are diagnosed each year.
Symptoms can include relentless diarrhoea; bleeding; severe pain; exhaustion; associated inflammation of the eyes, skin and joints and- in children- impaired growth. The impact on education, work, social and family life can be devastating.
Crohn’s and Colitis UK is the major UK charity offering information and support to people affected by these conditions. Established in 1979 as a partnership between patients, their families, friends and the health professionals caring for them, services include helplines, a wide range of printed and downloadable information, a website with web forum for young people and local community groups that bring people together for mutual support. We also raise awareness, campaign for better health care and fund vital research.
Less that 15% of our costs are met by membership subscriptions which are kept to a minimum so that no one need be excluded for financial reasons. For the remaining 85%, we rely on the generosity of our supporters. Your support will make a big difference to people’s lives.
