Anyone who knows me, will know I lost my beloved Grandma in December 2019! She was 91 and an incredible woman. She has a BEM for her work with children with disabilities and was so well thought of by everyone who knew her! She knew running was something very special to me and even asked the day before she passed away, what runs I had planned this year 2020. I wish I had been able to tell her I had finally been offered a London Marathon place after 7years of rejections but I think instead she went off this earth and pulled some strings for me with the Big Man!
I have decided to run for Chest Heart and Stroke Scotland (CHSS) in her memory because she lived with heart failure for 9years which began due to unstable angina and resulted in her having to miss our wedding in 2010 and have a triple heart bypass! She was a fighter and amazingly pulled through and had a wonderful 9 more years pain free! She was able to see her 4 great grandchildren all start school, her final goal in life! She was cared for by the heart failure nurse who visited regularly and kept her going!
I also work for the Edinburgh Community Respiratory Team (CRT) as an advanced physiotherapy practitioner supporting patients in the community with their COPD. We use the CHSS service regularly and find their information booklets as well as their website a really useful tool to support and educate our patient group!
I had decided to run:
Virgin Money London Marathon - April 2020 - postponed to 4th October 2020
Stockholm Marathon - May 2020 - cancelled
Chicago Marathon - October 2020 - cancelled
But Coronavirus decided to have other plans. Everything was cancelled BUT my charity offered the chance to do the London Virtual marathon on 4th October 2020. Completed in 4hrs16 so second fastest marathon.
2021 is here so let’s see if any events go ahead. So far all in the diary is London and Chicago marathon’s a week apart in October 2021. Will have to see what happens with COVID however.
Thanks for your support with my CHSS JustGiving challenge!
