Throughout the month of February, Jack Murphy Jewellers will utilise their engaged social media platforms to help raise awareness of the services provided by PIPS Hope and Support. With two of their team members, Rory and Nuala, participating in PIPS Hope and Support charity skydive this April – supporting the development and delivery of this fundamental community service during these particularly challenging times.

PIPS Hope and Support is the leading, independent advocate in the Southern Trust and Newry, Mourne and Down Council areas on all aspects of suicide, including; intervention, prevention, postvention and current trauma in order to reduce and prevent suicide, self-harm and emotional and mental distress. With premises at 50 Mill Street, Newry, PIPS Hope and Support deliver outreach services across the SHSCT areas including Armagh, Banbridge and Kilkeel which are all kindly supported and reliant on by donations from the local community and businesses. 

PIPS was formed in 2003 after the death of CEO Seamus McCabe’s son, Seamus, a 20-year-old student from Bessbrook.  Formerly known as PIPS Newry and Mourne, the charity is a one-stop shop and Protect Life Resource Centre, providing information, emotional support, counselling and compassionate assistance for those in crisis, those bereaved through suicide and those experiencing current trauma.

The charity also delivers accredited and health approved training and education workshops, such as (ASIST) Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training, Mental Health First Aid Training, safeTALK Training, B Positive Training, Resilience training, and the charities own OCN accredited training Shoulder to Shoulder.

For families who have sadly been affected by suicide, the charity provides meaningful support via a suicide bereavement family support worker and a range of counselling services and therapies. 

Throughout the pandemic, PIPS Hope and Support have continued to provide immediate therapy to anyone in the community with suicidal thoughts, high levels of anxiety, poor mental health or bereaved by suicide. With these current restrictions, the charity still remains open for support and can be contact between 9:00am – 5:00pm, Monday to Friday.  Outside of these hours, PIPS Hope and Support urges anyone in distress or despair to contact Lifeline by calling 0808 808 8000.
