Story

About us

I am taking part in the Hairy Haggis Team Relay on Sunday 23rd May 2010.  Our team name is Bankers on the run (!!) The team consists of myself who will be running 4.7 miles (yes I know I got the shortest leg!), Ryan Lambie who will be running 8.1 miles, Stuart Miller who will be 8 miles and Graeme Black who is running 5.4 miles.

We are raising money for Help the Hospices, a charity chosen by Graeme.  Many of us will have lost loved ones to terminal illness so our relay team will both help to raise money for a very worthwhile cause as well as remember those who are no longer with us.

Why Help the Hospices?

I'll let Graeme explain why he chose Help the Hospices.

"As most people that know me are aware, my dad lost his battle against cancer on Wednesday 29th January 2008.  Losing my dad has had a huge affect on the family, but our happy memory's of the good times greatly out weigh the difficult last year we all had when he was sick.

The last few peaceful days that we had with dad were made possible by the fantastic people of the Marie Curie hospice at Fairmilehead, Edinburgh. There are not enough words in the world to express our gratitude for their care and support they gave and by raising money for the hospices throughout the UK we hope to give something back."

About the charity

Help the Hospices is the leading charity supporting hospice care throughout the UK.

The majority of hospice care in the UK is provided by their member hospices.  Care is given free of charge to the patient and their friends and familiy.  It can be at home, in the hospice and in the community and can be for days, months or years.

What will my money be used for?

The raised from our participation in the Hairy Haggis Team Relay will help hospices throughout the UK care for terminally ill adults and children, and their loved ones, when they need it most.
