Story
Most people will know that I ran a half marathon last year in memory of
my amazing Grandma (Sheila Turley) to raise money for Macmillan Cancer
Support. My lovely mum pointed out to me
that it is a lot to ask from people for sponsorship every year. So I thought this year I NEED TO UP MY GAME
in the hope that you amazing people will sponsor me!
What am I doing?
I’m running the Yorkshire
Marathon on the 11th October 2015.
In order to train for this I have also signed up to the following
events:
The Major Series 15th March 2015 – 10-12k muddy obstacle
course
(The Major's Northern event is held in the stately grounds of Bramham
Park, near Leeds. The grand home sits in the centre of the Estate and is a
sight to behold. As one of the Major's
troops I will be going through muddy bogs, thick woods and river crossings, as
well as the infamous giant slide, spider's web and the dreaded ice crawl)http://www.majorseries.com/events/north/
Hornsea 1/3 Marathon 12th April 2015 – running only
Humber 1/2 Marathon 28th June 2015 – running only
So peeps, not only am I doing the above events, but I have decided I
would like to complete the marathon under 4 hours. To put it
all into perspective I ran the half marathon last October in 2 hours. This is going to be HARD!
It is going to REALLY test me and my body...but do you know what, I’m so
grateful to be fit and healthy that I’m going to use my health to its full
potential to help others!
Why Macmillan Cancer Support?
Grandma was diagnosed with lung cancer earlier in 2012 and underwent
treatment. However, the treatment didn’t
work and she was also diagnosed with a brain tumour weeks before she died. Macmillan supported my fantastic Mum and Auntie
to care for her in her own home, surrounded by her family, for the last few weeks
she was with us. This enabled her to leave us with as much strength, grace and
dignity she displayed throughout her life.
I now work for Macmillan Cancer Support and I can see from the other
side what an amazing charity they really are and how they really make a
difference!
How will your donation help?
£100.00 raised can provide benefit advice so people with cancer get the best
deal possible.
£50.00 raised can ensure a Macmillan nurse is there when someone is diagnosed
with cancer.
£25.00 raised can fund an hour on
the Macmillan support line, giving vital information and support.
Please don’t feel under pressure to donate a particular amount. Any amount will be gratefully received. If 25 people sponsored £2 pound each, this
would ensure that a Macmillan Nurse is there when someone is diagnosed with
cancer.
A little bit about my Gran
Sheila (Grandma) was an absolutely fabulous Mum, Grandma, Great Grandma and a
best friend to so many people. Grandma always gave without expecting anything
in return, whether it was her time, advice, or money. She owned care homes, two
for learning disabilities and a nursing home for the elderly. She would go to lengths
to ensure these people were cared for in the very best way possible. Grandma
didn't just love people and animals – she loved life itself!! She was an amazing character and truly
beautiful inside and out. Probably the
happiest I ever saw her was at a gig with family and friends with a double
vodka in her hand! (you may think I’m
joking...I’m really not.) I really do miss her.
Thank you for your support and sponsorship! Lots of love xxx
