Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
On Valentines Day 2019 I had the worst nights sleep with Millie who was just 5 weeks old. I tried everything but each time I put her down she would scream uncontrollably and was obviously in pain. I naively thought it was an ear ache and that’s why it hurt lying down and she had the high temperature. I managed to get a GP appointment the following morning after both of us had a few hours sleep.
Thankfully she was concerned and sent us straight to Burton Childrens ward. The doctor knew straight away after a few simple tests and took her immediately for a lumbar puncture. I was weak and couldn’t go in, I couldn’t bear to see my tiny baby going through this. I heard the crying from outside the door and my heart broke. Still I didn’t think it could be anything serious and the M word never crossed my mind. After what seemed like forever (but in reality it wasn’t) the doctor comes and tells me she has meningitis. I cannot explain, my heart broke and I just shook in disbelief. When Chris arrived as he had been in a long meeting I told him and he was too on shock.
Thankfully they gave our Millie everything she needed and after 4 very long nights in hospital we were discharged home with daily home visits for two weeks to administer her antibiotics. She was a fighter. Little tinker kept losing her catheter and we were back in Burton every other day to get it replaced. Her tiny hands were a pin cushion of bruises.
But we were lucky, so very lucky and I thank god every day for that. She is a happy healthy strong willed and bloody brilliant little girl and we couldn’t be more proud. We owe so much to the doctors and nurses.
By supporting meningitis now we want to raise awareness, support others who haven’t been as lucky as we were and give something back. If you can spare a few pounds I would be forever grateful.
Thankyou for reading! Xxxx
