Story
I'm running the Liverpool Half Marathon for my beautiful, kind, quirky, caring and wonderful mum, who was taken from us far too soon in December last year.
She was tragically diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease, or "F***king B***ard Disease" as she called it, in the summer of 2019. However, she had unknowingly been battling the disease for much longer as she started noticing symptoms, such as slurred speech and extreme tiredness, almost a year before she was diagnosed.
Over time, amongst other complications, the disease took her voice, energy, ability to swallow food and drink, and her independence but she vowed it would never take her sense of humour and ability to try and enjoy the time she had left with us. Despite what this cruel disease threw at her, she never failed to smile.
With the courage and determination that she showed us every day, I'm running the half marathon not only for my brave mum but for all the families who have been through and are going through the pain that this horrendous disease causes. Hopefully, the money raised for the MND Association will contribute towards one day finding a cure.
Any donation, however big or small, would mean so much. Thank you in advance XxX
