Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. I think everyone knows what a wicked and cruel disease Alzheimer’s is, sadly it is only when a loved one is suffering that you really understand the intensity that it has on the life of the person diagnosed, and also those around them.
My late grandad suffered this for 17 years, I sat and held his hand when he took his last breath. Now I watch as my Mum also fights this horrible illness. Diagnosed two years ago my mum is at the stage where she understands what is happening, her short term memory is terrible, and as such she avoids contact with friends as she is scared of embarrassing herself, she suffers terribly and stays at home most of the time to avoid situations that most people take in their stride. For anyone who has had the pleasure of knowing my mum before this, well they will understand that this is a world apart from the life and soul of the party we all know.
The impacts are felt by all of our family, and I suspect that this horrible illness will continue to affect my family, my children and that of many many more for years to come. This is why I have decided to do something that I consider extreme and stupid to raise money to support finding ways to stop this a**hole in it tracks!
Apparently in April I will run/jog/walk/stumble/crawl for just over 26 miles. This still won’t be anywhere close to the pain that my family feels as a result of Alzheimer’s.
I know the cost of living is tough, but if you could spare anything to support me I promise I will crawl that bit harder!
