Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page in memory of my mum Maureen Adair - my heart, my strength, my love and the bond that never breaks.

On the 23rd January 2016 in Ireland,  my mum passed away from multi organ failure caused by Sepsis. My mum developed sepsis after having an operation and as a result her body deteriorated before finally going into Septic shock. Due to those caring for her and not fully adhering to policies and procedures her condition deteriorated.

When you are told afterwards by persons in charge “Your mums deterioration was tolerated” there is nothing in this world that prepares you to hearing that.... you feel numb...you feel anger and you feel pain.

I didn't get to speak to her or say goodbye. I felt helpless as I watched her in an unconscious state hoping that she could hear my words.....

A life can be saved - ideally when Sepsis is diagnosed, antibiotics should be administered within the hour. The loss of my mum broke my heart and I would not wish anyone else to go through the same loss or heartache.

I  will be running two half marathons so please give a few pounds to worthy cause. London Landmarks and Hackney Half.

According to The Sepsis Trust UK  'Every 3.5 seconds, someone in the world dies of sepsis'. I want to spread awareness and raise funds for this deadly infection. Please read more by visiting https://sepsistrust.org

Sepsis accounts for 48,000 deaths annually in the UK, that’s more than breast, bowel and prostate cancer put together. Sepsis is what happens when our immune system overreacts to an infection. Symptoms initially present as flu like but can rapidly deteriorate into a life threatening condition.
