Story
In 2013 I began running for my 60th birthday with the aim of completing the Great Manchester Run 10K in 60 mins - then 5 years later a Half Marathon for my 65th. Now 10 years on, and I'm dreaming of celebrating my 70th year by completing the 2023 London Marathon. The challenge is immense but it will be a great achievement!
My mother benefitted from end-of-life care from St Ann's Hospice at their Heald Green building, and more recently a Primary School friend Sheila Waddington (who I had only just got to know again) was cared for at St Ann’s Little Hulton hospice location.
Sadly, the Heald Green building where my mother was cared for is now at the end of its life, and unless funds can be raised for a replacement will not be able to continue the good work for others.
Mum had said for some years after visiting friends that if she ever needed end of life care, then St Ann’s is where she would like to be. Weeks before she was admitted my brother and I were taking turns sleeping on her floor overnight, whilst a wonderful neighbour cared during the day. I was newly married and my brother had young children, so this was a difficult time for us both on top of watching her suffer so much. Her last weeks in the wonderful care of St Ann’s gave her comfort and much needed pain relief. For my brother and I it was a relief to know that she was being looked after 24/7 where she wanted to be, and that we could see her anytime.
