Story

Sometime early July last year, I think I started a midlife crisis. Well when I say midlife crisis it’s a very late midlife crisis unless I’m going to live to 114. I decided unconsciously and without realising, that I needed to get fit and loose some weight. So completely against my character I joined a gym, well when I say a gym it’s actually Blast Boot Camp a group for overweight, unfit, over 30-year-old men training in a former fabrication workshop, run by Mark Poole and his amazing team of personal trainers it’s open early mornings and evenings 6 days a week. I also joined Slimming World with my wife Lisa. The group is run by Jayne Norbury and they meet on a Tuesday and Saturday in Ainsdale.

And here is the strange thing, I love it!
My progress has been steady and effective. I have now lost over 3 stone and and I am probably as fit now as I was when I was 19 years old.
So here’s the really daft bit;
Along with a load of others from the Boot Camp I’ve signed up to complete the National Three Peaks Challenge! That’s climbing the highest peaks of Scotland England and Wales in 24 hours and I will be attempting it on my 57th birthday!

I will be raising funds for two worthy good causes.

Queenscourt Hospice, Southport and Evergreen Blossom Academy, Ghana.

Queenscourt Hospice is a Hospice that provides support for the people of Southport and the surrounding areas. They care for patients with serious illnesses, enabling them to achieve the best possible quality of life throughout each new stage. They help to do this both in the Hospice and at home.

At last with travel restrictions lifted, students and staff from Greenbank High School are excitedly raising funds and preparing to visit their partner school in Ghana this July. It will be the tenth anniversary of Evergreen Blossom Academy a blended independent school, catering for students from Reception years to Secondary age, in a rural community in Akropong north of Accra.
Evergreen Blossom Academy has been supported over the last 10 years since its inauguration by Greenbank and Farnborough Rd schools, as well as local church groups and individuals. The fundraising that is currently underway is to help provide new IT and Science classrooms, a canteen and kitchen at their new site which is currently being developed.
