Gavin's London Marathon 2022 fundraising for Breast Cancer Now

London Marathon 2022 · 2 October 2022 ·
Hi everyone,
Thanks for visiting my fundraising page. In August of last year, my wife Emma, was diagnosed with Breast Cancer, which had spread to her Lymph Nodes. It was an aggressive and fast growing type of Cancer called Her2-positive but was caught and diagnosed early.
As you can imagine from that day we were told the word Cancer, our family life was turned upside down and the past 9 months have been incredibly difficult for Emma, our 2 daughters and our family and friends around us.
Since diagnosis, Emma has remained determined and has amazingly battled through 6 rounds of chemotherapy, major surgery, 3 weeks of Radiotherapy, and will carry on with Immunotherapy treatment until November 2022.
In March of 2022, we were given the fantastic news and a 2nd chance at family life when Emma was given the all clear and told she had beaten Cancer, a day that will never be forgotten.
Along this journey I actually feel we have been blessed and are lucky, we are eternally grateful for todays medical science and treatments, the fantastic NHS who have been incredible from diagnosis to starting treatment through to every nurse, consultant and specialist who have helped along the way, even during the pandemic.
Hopefully you are still reading, so why fundraise and why the London Marathon? The past 9 months has completely changed me and how i look at life, i know that might sound cliché, but it really has. I have seen way too many young women (and some men) get the same diagnosis as Emma and without the incredible research and support charities like Breast Cancer Now, Emma and other women and families would not be given the 2nd chance like we have and i want to give back and help improve the statistics for curing and treating Breast Cancer.
During this journey, the 1 thing that has kept my mental health together to give me strength to support Emma and our 2 daughters has been running (and giving up alcohol the day Emma was diagnosed), so what better way to fundraise than run the London Marathon. My journey will not stop at fundraising, I am committed to helping the charity support the husbands, partners and families of those affected and going through the journey i have.
Finally, thankyou for visiting my page, i have never done anything like this before and from the bottom of my heart am truly grateful for any donations. I want to help make a difference.
