Story

Thanks very much for taking the time to visit my Just Giving page.

I'm going to be doing a 170ft Bungee Jump from the Transporter Bridge in Middlesborough on Sunday July 3rd 2011, to raise as much as I can for a charity close to my heart, called PAWS-GIST.

Paediatric/Wildtype GIST is a rare form of cancer, for which there is no known cure at present. There is limited research currently being undertaken in the UK and due to it's rarity, until now there has been no specialist group with expertise in the child form of this cancer in the UK.

PAWS-GIST is a medical focus group of GIST experts who came together in November 2011 with the sole purpose of changing this situation. They will specialise in Paediatric and Wild type GIST and it is hoped will be able to pool & share knowledge, define the most effective treatments, improve life expectancy/quality of life and ultimately find a cure for Paediatric/Wildtype GIST.

There are currently at least 10 Paediatric GIST cases in the UK, most have Wildtype GIST. There are many more, older patients with Wildtype GIST in the UK, whose lives are similarly blighted. All have questions and fears that are not easily answered and it's hoped that the focus group of doctors in combination with others in America & Europe will find answers and evolve treatments that will benefit the children and other Paediatric & Wildtype GIST cases in the future.
I am raising funds towards research and to develop the best care and treatment for the patients so that they stand the best chance of beating this cancer.
Thank you for sponsering me
