It was May bank holiday weekend in 2006, my best friend had just called for me on the off chance that I had a spare hour or so to go out for a ride on our motor bikes. I jumped at the chance, little did I know after getting on the bike I would not return home for several weeks! Mark unfortunately did have to return to my house, he had the task of informing Annette that I had crashed my bike and was now in the local hospital.  I was admitted and told I had thoracic fractures on T6 & T7, that was Sunday. I was then scheduled for a CT scan on the Tuesday, after which I then found out I had also sustained a cervical fracture C7. With a broken neck and back I was then moved to the Midlands Centre for Spinal Injuries. After seven weeks in bed lying flat I was happy to have my body cast fitted and return home. Looking at the statistics for these injuries I was extremely lucky to have no long term problems resulting from my accident.

The statistics are frightening!

The overall incidence of cervical spinal fracture without spinal cord injury is 3.0% that's not even taking into account the two thoracic fractures.

During my stay in Oswestry I was surrounded by people who had not been so lucky.

Please dig deep and sponsor me for all the people that are not so lucky as me.

Thanks

Gav

About the charity

Trust PA Spinal Injury Charity, was set up in memory of Paul-Andre Blundell (PA), who was totally paralysed during a rugby tackle and later died. He had hoped to benefit from the work to restore movement and sensation. TPA funds pioneering repair operations as seen on BBC TV. 10-12 more needed asap.
