Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
We have set ourselves the challenge of running every day in December this year having not been much of a runner before now. We can't promise we will run particularly quickly but we will run as far and as fast as we can. We are doing this both to challenge ourselves but also to raise some money for Kidney Research UK.
I have had chronic kidney disease since 2006 and two months ago I had a kidney transplant from my brother-in-law Stuart. Having a transplant not only means I feel a lot better (even if I didn't realise I felt unwell before!) but also means I don't need to start dialysis (which involves either connecting yourself to a machine every night for 8-9 hours or going to the hospital for 4-5 hours 3 times a week) in order to stay alive.
Worldwide, 1 in 10 people have chronic kidney disease and in the UK 20 people every day develop kidney failure. There are currently over 60 000 people in the UK who rely on dialysis or a kidney transplant to stay alive and five people die every week whilst on the waiting list for a kidney transplant. Kidney Research UK is the largest kidney research charity in the UK. Any and all donations are greatly appreciated to help support further research into kidney disease.
