Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit our fundraising page.
Recently, a serving Sussex Police officer (and jolly good bloke), Brian Hay, was diagnosed with cancer. He is currently undergoing treatment to overcome this illness. This isn't his first battle with cancer either.
A close relative of another member of the same team was also dignosed with a different form of cancer and is now recovering from this. This disease affects more people than you can imagine both directly and indirectly.
The team has therefore come together and wants to raise as much money as is possible for Cancer Research UK by completing the Three Peaks Challenge. This is a publicly funded charity which is working hard to understand cancer and develop better ways to prevent, diagnose and treat the disease. We're sure you've heard of the excellent work this charity is doing but if you'd like to read more about it, please follow this link http://www.cancerresearchuk.org/
So, the challenge; the Three Peaks Challenge, to be exact. The aim is to climb the three highest peaks in England, Scotland and Wales within a 24 hour period. We are aiming to complete this in late-May 2010.
Scotland holds the first of these mountains with Ben Nevis, making up part of the Grampian Mountains. At 1,344m with a start point as close to sea level without getting wet, meaning a greater vertical ascent.
A 'brisk' drive to Scafell Pike hidden within the Lake District National Park reveals England's highest mountain. 978m will see off this peak.
Wales holds in store Snowdon in the Snowdonia National Park. A climb/crawl of 1,085m will complete the challenge for us, hopefully within the 24-hour time limit.
The Team:
Andy Walters - Chairman
Ritchie Southerton - Expedition Leader/Photographer
Adam Ruff - Medic
Mat Tomlinson - Videographer
Howard Albon - Anchorman
Kevin Ebdale - Team Driver
Neil Porter - Clothing Rep
Dawn Turner - Entertainment Coordinator
Ross Barnes - Navigator
Jamie Furber - General Dog's Body
Please donate generously to this worthwhile charity. Every penny (or pound) goes a long way.
NB: All costs incurred from the challenge will be met by the team meaning all money raised goes direct to Cancer Research UK.
Thanks in advance!!!
