In Memory Of Ben Thompson ❤️
I didn't know Ben personally but am very close to the Young family. In 2010 their daughter Holly was diagnosed with Leukemia at the young age of 15, she was treated and cared for by the Teenage Cancer Trust, at a fantastic state of the art Cancer unit in London specifically designed to treat teenagers and young adults with cancer. The trust receives no government funding and is solely reliant on public donations.
Both suffering with Leukemia, Holly met Ben at the UCLH one of Teenage Cancer Trust wards at the start of their treatment, they quickly become friends and supported each other as they battled through the following 3 years of grueling and sometimes painful treatment.
Although Ben was a year younger than Holly, as their friendship grew she began to look on him as a big brother, he always had a way of cheering her up when the going got tough, they remained close friends when they both left hospital.
They regularly spoke on the phone, met up socially and together often returned to UCLH for ongoing treatment, between them that's how they coped with the endless rounds of Chemo, medications and hospital visits.
In January 2014 as they were both nearing the completion of their treatment Ben suddenly relapsed and was re admitted to hospital requiring a bone marrow transplant. Despite this Ben still remained positive, that great sense of humour always there whenever you saw him.
Then some great news, Ben's younger brother Cain was tested as a perfect match and preparations for the transplant were started immediately.
However, Ben got a serious infection, and although he dug deep to fight it, the infection was just too severe for him to cope with.
In June 2014 Ben sadly lost his battle and passed away aged just 17💔.
I am so honoured and humbled to be representing the Young and Thompson families and allowing me to hopefully raise lots of money, but to ensure that Ben will never be forgotten.
Also running for other friends that Holly has lost - Bola; Chloe;
Billy. 💔💔💔
I hope that the money raised by myself will help other teenagers and young adults fight this awful illness. 💔
