Story
hey everybody. so its mid january and the training had been going well, dark cold and wet nights out running over xmas and new year seemed to be paying off as the runs were becoming easier. however, unfortunately on the 6th of january i had a motorbike accident. i had a splint on my wrist for a wek but after being re-x-rayed yesterday they found i have broken my wrist so i now have a cast on for 6 weeks. i also caused some damage to my knee and hip in the accident so i have had to take the decision to defer my marathon place for a year until 2013. this isnt a decision i have taken lightly and im very disappointed, but to warrant everyones sponsorship i need to complete the marathon and i just think that by the time my injuries have healed up i would be pushing my luck trying to complete my training in such a short space of time. all the money that has been raised so far will still be heading straight to the scbu and i will update everyone once confirmation arrives of my 2013 place. apologies to everyone i feel like ive let people down but i cant run with a plaster cast on my arm!
Hi everyone. So Ive had a 2 week break from fundraising as our new baby Luke was born on the 22nd october! We were fortunate enough that Luke and Kirstie came through it all absolutely fine and had no need for the SCBU, many people arent this lucky so im now going to push even harder to hit our £500 target. Many thanks to everyone that has donated so far, also to L.E.J Hair gallery for putting a donation pot out for us and also one will soon be set out at my work Inchcape VW Colchester. I really appreciate all the help and donations, i hope to do everyone proud and really earn your generosity.
£30 raised by the marshalls at Brands Hatch British Superbikes this weekend, massive thanks to Sue Cox, Kat Murray, Dee Burton, Chris Moore, Gordon Hool, Adam Randles and Jennie 'the dragon' Brooks for organising it all. thanks very much all of you.

Many thanks sue crisp, you have helped a fantastic cause!
Hi everyone! Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. With our first baby on the way in November and the stories I have heard from many people now, I have decided to make the Colchester General Hospital Special Care Baby Unit (SCBU) my charity of choice for next years London Marathon. The SCBU work on limited funds from the government that has to be split among the entire hospital, so things get tight. One baby heart monitor recently cost them £67,000. They do some great work in there for new parents and need simple things like toys to keep the kids amused, furniture in their waiting areas and also many more expensive items that could one day save YOUR child. I hope that when our baby comes that we wont need the services of the SCBU, but for all the people that do need it, including my older sister Helen and twin sister Karen who were both on the ward years ago now, any cash that can be raised to help them care for other babies has got to be a great cause.
I have never run more then 6 miles in one go before, I still love beer and all the bad food an 'athlete' shouldnt be eating, but I will train very hard and have decided to make the promise that if I reach the £500 target I have set to raise, then I will run the marathon wearing a baby type costume.
Please dig deep, Im sure we all know someone who has had to use the SCBU. Thanks a lot.
Gary.
