I intend to cycle from John O`Groats to Lands End with a friend of mine . A journey of about 1,000 miles in 10 days, so 100 miles per day if all goes well. The charity I have chosen is SUAG [Spinal Unit Action Group]. This is a local charity which is celebrating it’s 25th anniversary this year. They are closely associated with the North West Regional Spinal Injuries Unit in Southport .SUAG provide support for both past and present patients .They run a long and short term residency home for patients located in Southport, together with support for the spinal injury community throughout the UK. [www.suag.co.uk]
The reason for my choice is that my father Norman Mosscrop founder of our business Mosscrop Cycles passed away in April this year, 5 years ago he had a fall whilst on holiday in Scotland ,fracturing 3out of the 7 vertebrae in his neck .This led to two 3-month periods in hospital : the first in Scotland’s Spinal Injuries Centre in Glasgow and the second at the Spinal Injuries Unit in Southport. I cannot express how brilliant and dedicated all the staff of both centres were in dealing with this type of life changing injury . Although SUAG were not directly involved with my father , their existence was certainly brought to my attention. When enquiring with some of my customers who have spinal injuries they reaffirmed that this charity is a very worthy choice.
I thank you for taking the time to visit my web page and would be grateful for any donations however small . A Spinal Cord injury can happen to any one of us at any time. It is potentially totally life changing. If through this ride, I can help to raise much needed funds, it will be well worth the long training rides .
Cheers Gary.
