Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Raising money for Muscular Dystrophy UK is very personal for me and my family. Sadly I lost my brother Simon to the Duchenne form of Muscular Dystrophy seven years ago.
For those of you that don't know what Muscular Dystrophy is, it is a muscle wasting disease that results in a increasing weakness and breakdown of the skeletal muscles over time. The Duchenne form of Muscular Dystrophy affects about 1 in 5,000 males at birth. Currently there is no cure for this disease despite some recent breakthroughs in stem cell research. Sadly the disease is terminal with most affected not living past the age of 20.
The money I am raising from completing this half marathon will help support the individuals and families affected by Muscular Dystrophy and help continue the fight to find a cure for this disease, so that hopefully one day we never have to say goodbye to our sons, daughters, brothers or sisters with this disease ever again.
Muscular Dystrophy UK is the charity for the 110,000 children and adults living with muscle-wasting conditions in the UK. There's currently no cure, and it many cases, it limits lives. MDUK do vital work in funding pioneering research into treatments and cures as well as providing vital information, advice, resources and support for individuals and families living with these conditions. All donations, big or small, are greatly appreciated. Thank you!
