Story
Walking Football Scotland in partnership with Prostate Cancer UK have asked all member groups and participants to fund-raise for our charity partner.
Walking Football Scotland Chair, Gary McLaughlin agreed to do his bit and raise funds for the charity by joining Jeff Stelling’s March for Men and walking 26 miles around some well known football stadiums.
Kicking off at Hampden Park, on the morning of 5 September. The march will also head to city giants Rangers and Celtic before visiting Hamilton Academical and finishing at Fir Park Motherwell .
Prostate cancer has overtaken breast cancer and is now the third biggest cancer killer in the UK.
Prostate cancer mainly affects men over 50, and your risk increases as you get older. The average age for men to be diagnosed with prostate cancer is between 65 and 69 years. If you are under 50, your risk of getting prostate cancer is very low. Men under 50 can get it, but it isn’t common.
Prostate Cancer UK has been funding research into prostate cancer since the 1990's and we've seen a lot of advances in that time. There is still a lot more to be done, but research is already making a difference to men’s lives and their families.
In the UK, about 1 in 8 men will get prostate cancer at some point in their lives.
In Scotland More than 3,000 men are diagnosed with prostate cancer every year in Scotland.
Around 900 men die from prostate cancer every year in Scotland.
Please help me and Prostate Cancer UK by donating to this worthy cause.
Every little helps and your support will make a difference.
Thank you
Gary
